When we thought we were done with our quota of smoggy days for the year, pollution is back with a vengeance in the NCR. Thankfully, this also solves my problem of how to review the air purifiers sent to me this year. The latest spike in pollution happened the day I set up the new Qubo Q600 smart air purifier in my bedroom, suddenly giving it a sense of purpose.
I thought the Qubo Q600 looked like the Xiaomi range of air purifiers (review) and even had the same filtering mechanism inside. This means they are easy to set up for anyone — all you have to do is remove the filter, remove its polyethylene cover, and put it back in. Then you can set up the device using the Qubo app so that you get to control the air purifier remotely as well as gather some insights about the air quality in your room. Qubo does some good hand-holding for new customers by sharing a set-up guide via WhatsApp, which is a nice touch. But the app is not a must for running the air purifier.
On the device, you have an LED panel that shows a power button flanked by speed settings and an auto mode, as well as a QSense AI mode. On the front, this panel shows your AQI level in real-time with a colour coding that ranges from green to red based on how bad the indoor air quality is.
When I started, the AQI levels were mostly in green and Qubo Q600 was able to bring the levels down to PM 2.5 levels of about 25 in a few minutes. However, over the past couple of days, the air purifier usually starts in a yellow mode with the room range well over 100 and then settles to about 25 in 15-20 minutes. In auto mode, this also means the device is running at full throttle for the first few minutes. Along with auto mode, which adjusts the fan speed based on the AQI level, there is the QSenseAI where the device shuts off if the air is good. It can switch back on if the levels deteriorate.
One aspect I liked about the Qubo Q600 is that it is one of the quietest air purifiers I have tested. You can hardly hear it even at night, though I found the LEDs can be a bit too bright when you are trying to sleep. Thankfully, you can adjust the light intensity using the app and even mute the beep sounds. The app has some other good features like the countdown mode for a switch off. This comes along with the schedule mode. There is also a child lock for homes with naughty kids.
At Rs 14,990, the Qubo Q600 is among the simplest and most effective air purifiers you can opt for this season. This air purifier stands out for how it covers all bases without any gimmicks and gives a clear understanding of the air quality in your room, even without you having to reach out for the smartphone app. The Qubo Q600 is perfect for living rooms and bedrooms where you have a bit of control over the airflow and might not be ideal for large open spaces.
